I have 2002 EB 5.4 and occasionally while the vehicle is in drive not moving and the foot is on the brake such as at a stop light the vehicle acts like someone hits the gas and it will jump forward. It only happens occasionally but has cause me to nearly rear end others in front of me. Any ideas what may cause this?

Do the rpms jump when this occurs?

Maybe something in the programming (likely sensor related) is causing the ecu to suddenly increase idle rpms significantly.

Or possibly the torque converter is locking up at idle which it should not though I would think that would likely stall it.

I have had this happen to me a few times as well. When I was at the dealer last I asked them about it and they said they couldn't do anything without seeing it happen on a test drive. Problem is it happens once every couple months....

I've had a couple times coming off the highway where the trucks seems to get hung up and run around 1,000 rpms. I can feel it wanting to go forward as it takes more braking power to keep it still, but I have no idea why this happens and it hasn't happened in well over a year.

The throttle body was sticking on my Expedition, causing it to rev and lurch like that. I narrowed it down by watching the throttle position with a scan tool, then got on here and posted a thread about a possible faulty TPS.
Now I have the 4.6 engine, so things may be different there. For me, though, a shop rag and a few minutes cleaning out the throttle body has taken care of the problem so far.
