We have a 2019 Platinum. The power running boards look swanky but they are a booger. After years of diligent maintenance they finally gave up a few months ago. New power boards were stupid expensive, so we had them removed and fixed boards put on. However, It was my understanding from the service department at our local Ford dealer that this isn't an option for the newer vehicles. You have to replace them with new power boards.
The other option would be to turn them off, they will stay in the up position. But if everyone in your family isn't 6' that isn't realistic.

From what I can tell, the price seems to be in the right range. I only managed to get $500 off, which isn’t much, but the truck itself made a strong impression. I currently drive a 2018 F‑150 with the 3.5, so I’m familiar with this engine. The Expedition’s motor actually sounds noticeably better than mine — no knock, no odd noises, just clean and smooth.

I’m also very familiar with power running boards since I have to clean and lube mine every year. On this Expedition, the hinges looked extremely clean, so I don’t think buildup or corrosion is the issue. Even when I tried to help the boards retract with my foot after closing the door, they wouldn’t budge.

So now I’m trying to decide whether this is still a good deal. It’s a one‑owner vehicle, serviced locally, and overall in great shape. I asked Copilot earlier and it said the price was fair, but I know AI isn’t perfect.

The good news is I’m not locked in — no deposit, no signed agreement. I’m waiting to see what the dealer ultimately says about the running boards before making a final decision.
Are they turned on?
