Is it the differential cover or where the diff comes into the axle? The front side is still ok to do if you know how to take the axles and everything apart. If its the cover that is leaking, take it off and put some RTV sealant on it and you're set

or...The fastest way to see if you have a LS rearend is to jack up the rearend off the ground so that both tires are off the ground. Once you have both tires off the ground, take and spin one tire forward, if the other tire spins in the forward direction also, then it is a LS rear. If the tire spins in the opposite direction or not at all, then it is a non-LS rear.

Look for the vehicle certification label on the driver's door. This label will say "MFG. by Ford Motor Company" at the top, and will list front and rear GAWR, tire pressures and will show a bar code.
Below the bar code find a grouping of terms including AXLE. Directly below this word is the axle code:
17 = 3.31 non-limited slip
19 = 3.55 non-limited slip
H6 = 3.73 limited slip
H7 = 3.31 limited slip
H9 = 3.55 limited slip

Mine says H9 but I don't think it's LS
Mine says H9 too but I haven't checked any farther.... why don't you think yours is?
