Well not mine, the one on the truck. Just noticed it in the last week or so. Just moved recently and now parking on an incline and on concrete vs. level ground on asphalt. Hopefully this hasn't been going on longer and I just didn't notice.

Any ideas or thoughts on fixing this thing? Do I need a gasket? Silicone? I googled it and came across a bunch of posts talking about a vibration and new gears on a bunch of 2nd Gens. Haven't really noticed that, but is that issue gonna result now with the leak?

Got this truck with 60k on it, now right around 90k. Lots of questions I know, and any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks fellas.

you could just do a fluid swap in the rear end... use the appropriate fluids and RTV silicone as a gasket and should fix your problem... as long as it is leaking from the rear diff cover and nothing worse:badidea:

and if it is a limited slip get the friction modifier so you don't get the chattering affect... more then they reccomend...

make sure it is just the diff cover and not the input shaft seal... they like to leak as well

Thanks

Thanks guys. I plan to get under there better tomorrow afternoon to see what I can find. I'll take a look and report back. I believe is is just the cover as thats where I saw drips forming, but I'll double check.

KWT, what is the friction modifier if you don't mind a dumb question?

Thanks for the help and if anyone has input please throw your .02 in.

that is where you will see the drip in either case cause when you drive the wind throws the oil to the back of the diff but either way you will know when you climb under it..

the friction modifier is a liquid designed to keep the clutches from slipping which is where you get the chatter you have read about...

it comes in i think 4oz tubes and they say 1 tube will do

but i had to put in 3 tubes to get the clutches to quit chattering...

just ask for the rear diff friction modifier at the parts store and i would buy 3 and be done or if having it done have the shop put more in

i dont have a ls, but i still added it for funn. when my dad went to orileys for me they said he had to go to ford. so he got one tube. then i found some at orileys. the one from ford was a little thicker i think. but either way no chatter. since i dont have a ls. haha but i would still add it even if you dont have the ls.

Got it.

Thanks for all the advice fellas. Finally had time and extra cash to crawl under there yesterday. Got it fixed, but man it was a *****. The frame rail right behind the cover made life fun as hell. Took twice as long as I though but the bastard is sealed up tight now.

Keep in mind if the leak reappears in a short period of time, make sure to blow out the vent line and unplug the nipple on the rear axle. I had a problem with mine perpetually leaking and I finally resolved the issue when I found a blockage on the vent port for the axle. I had managed to get some dirt in there. I wouldn't know how that got there. I only have had the truck up in water/mud up to the top of the headlights. LMAO. Nothing like looking out the driver's window and seeing the water up to near the window. Ooppps.
