While under my rig today, troubleshooting some noises, I stumbled across the attached image. Sure looks to me like a heavy weight axle grease is making it's way out of the boot, which usually means moisture and dirt are likely getting in. This is the passenger side, the driver side was pretty clean and dry.

Thoughts from the experts?

Axle shaft? This seems more like the steering box where the tie rods exit. If I'm correct, there should not be axle grease in there. Ironically, I just posted about my front gearcase leaking today.

I would also agree that this looks like the steering rack and not the axle shaft. There most likely is grease in that boot but I wouldn't worry about what you are seeing there.

you know what, you're completely right, my fault. It is the steering rack, not the Axle Shaft. Let me revise.

Guess I took the earlier pics and posted later, not connecting the dots.

good pic. I wouldn't worry about it. Doesn't seem to be seeping. Almost looks like someone had some crud on them and just bumbed the location in question.
