I ordered some Sylvania W5W LED Lights for the license plate and I’m not pleased with the light pattern. They work well, and certainly look better than stock in terms of color temp, but I was hoping for more even lighting across the plate.

Has anyone tried these, or anything like them? They replace the entire lamp housing with a LED-equipped lens.

Most have just replaced the bulbs in the stock housings. I was mostly interested in having the LED bulbs avoid the yellow incandescent look to match the rest of the LED's on the truck (puddle lamps, etc) but not trying to enhance the visibility of the plate from long distances, etc.

Agreed. That was my initial purpose in doing it, and I think if the inside of the little light housings was metallic the light throw would look a lot better. It certainly can be seen, but I just wish it was more uniformly lit. I am retentive like that.

I used these and am happy with color, brightness, and pattern.

Did the vled - very easy to change.
- press flat head into tabs on right of housings, and slowly pry towards center to start releasing housing from tailgate
- twist wiring connector to separate bulb from housing.

these bulbs aren’t overly bright, and match well to the outdoor flood lighting.
