liftgate raises slowly

The liftgate on my 99 Expedition raises slowly and I sometimes have to help it fully open. It stays up once it's open. Is this normal or do I have to replace the lift supports?

Try sprying some WD40 on the support shock

i would replace them with a heavy dutie units and that will fix your problems with them not working correctly

What kind of heavy duty ones do you suggest?

any of the heavy dutie ones i mean go to auto zone and tell them what you need and if they have to order them that cool have them order them and fix your problem

I agree with trying to lubricate the shock before replacing.

yeah it is a tempary fix though because what has happened his tailgate shocks have got weak after time and just need replaced and spraying them can also make them not work at all because all the grease and grim will mess up the seals in the hatch shock
