...a 2019 Ford Expedition Max Limited as a rental. I got "rear ended" a couple of weeks ago and it took this long for the other driver's insurance to set up repairs and a rental. Basically it was on the interstate going through a construction zone with stop & go traffic. Traffic stopped, I stopped (not emergency) and he must have been staring at his phone or something else since he wasn't paying attention to his driving.

While mine is being repaired, I get to test out the new version. First off it's averaging per the computer 19.7 over the last 4K plus miles. That's great on a rental vehicle as when I was transfering things from mine, the enterprise kid left it running and I also wasn't instructed to put high octane in it.

It's nice but not $35,000 nicer than my used one.

It rides stiffer and the sight lines are not as good as the 17. The transmission and engine run great, no hunting and power is there all the time (just like the 17)when needed. Ford has the 10 speed transmission nicely tuned. The handling feels the same. It feels like I'm lower in it. I'm not sure if the vehicle is lower or just how the seating is setup vs smaller widows.

I hate.....HATE the auto engine shut off at stops. It clunks off and then on when you release the brake. I hit that disable button as soon as I feel it. Believe it or not I owned a Prius and had one as a company provided car too. Somehow Toyota makes their stop/start seamless. Ford's version is very noticeable. I'm glad I don't have it in the 17.

My needs are simple, the 17 meets them. I'm glad I'm getting a chance for a try out of the newer version but overall it didn't make me want to run out an upgrade especially at the price they want for them. I do like the idea of non rusting lighter weight aluminum for driving in the salty winters of the North and that they redesigned the motor to clean carbon off the valves. The gas mileage is much improved. The interior is very nice.

Once done with the 17, I'll reevaluate my needs and get what's best for them. Plus maybe Ford will redesign again by then and I can get the last year (if proven reliable) of this generation for a steep discount.

After the 19, I included pics my rear of my 17 and the chevy cruze that hit it.IMG_3617.JPG IMG_3618.JPG IMG_3465.JPG IMG_3464.JPG

They 1st tried to put me into a Nissan Path Finder. I can't believe how much they have neutered that vehicle. It used to be a great mid sized SUV now it's a car and not a very good one. I guess they expect the path you are searching for to be paved and maintained.

I had to push to get the Expy.
