lowering my 02 and tire wheel question

hey guys,


i am thinking about lowering my 02 expedition. i never liked the gap between tire and fender (about 4") i am running 22" wheels form u2 with a 285/35 tire

not too long i had a tire blow out and now i am not sure if i should get 24" wheels to fill the gap and still drop it a bit or if i should stick with my 22's and get new tires. i like the low profile look of my 35 tire, but then the gap gets bigger

would like your guys opinion on the look, ride quality etc. with 22's and 24's i don't mind if the ride is getting harder, because i am used to it...just want that sleek street look. also not sure if i should just go with springs or drop spindles or should invest even more for bags?

i think a 1.5 inch drop and 24"s would be nice but it might be a bit overkill i think if you got a 22 with some black in there would look real nice

LVExpo, the question is what look are you going after? If you are wanting the low rider look, then going wtih 24's and a slight drop will be the ticket. If you are looking at something that maintains the overall ability of the truck, then stick with what you have. If you are looking for something to fill in the wheel wells a little more, then I would say to see what you can do about say a 285/40R22 or even possibly say a 285/45R22. This will give you a little more rubber in the sidewall and it will fill up the wheel well a little better.

But, again, it all comes back to what you are wanting the truck to look like.

basically the lowest rubber possible...just the nice street truck look, rather more wheel then tire, but without looking ghetto. the standard size for 24" would be 305/35/24 if i am not mistaken...what do u guys think about a 2"/3" drop with 24" wheels and a 305/30/24 tire?

thats what i would do...but if youre going to buy new rims/tires...just go 26's...you might be able to find 24 with 30 series...i would advise it...you want a nice street look but not to thin that the rims are in jeopardy of getting bent...26's on 30 series...24's on 35s...22's on 30s...pushing it...25 series if you want rubber bands...you'd have to access the road conditions where you are...thats why i went 24's verses 26's...road conditions...too much money to waste to bend a wheel...if i was in florida...it wouldve been 26's and nothing less

i def dont wanna go with 26" i think its overkill for the first gen expys. i can't decide if i keep my 22" or go with 24"...somethimes 24" look crappy and sometimes they don't.... i wish i could see my truck with my current setup and a 2"/3" drop...maybe i like it that way...the other problem is that the 24's i wanna get are on back order since they are not the newest.....ahhhhh going nuts

Yes a 2-3 drop will fill the gap just rite!!!!! If u go with 24s u will probley get a lower profile tire which will be close to the same as what u have, Then it will ride worse and have a better chance for a blow out

2-3 drop springs with new shocks. If it were mine i would do that + Black headlights and corners, powder coat the grill black, remove the flares or paint them black, Tint the tail lights and fog lights, = Not trying to offend, just dreaming of how i would like to see it if it were mine.

I would stick with 22s and lower it... need a little rubber for insurance from trashing rims.... but looks awesome either way

i would def keep the 22's and lower it. 305/45/22 would be better tire size for the truck.
thats actually the size tire rack suggests when buying 22's. i think ur 285/35 arent enough tire to protect ur rims.
just my opnion. truck looks dope BTW.

sorry haven't been here in a while...happy new btw and thanks for all the responses!

yeah i def wanna do something now, since i am sick of driving on those 17's. i prob stick with my 22s for now, since i have a hard time finding a 24" wheel that i like that is in a 5x135 bolt pattern and i think converting 5 to 6 lug is a bad idea. the wheel that i have is discontinued so prob almost impossible to find in 24" anyway and it also sounds like i am better off with 22 inches due to ride quality.

i just don't know if i still going to like the look if i put the suggested size of 305/40 on their...tire seems so "standard" and bulky. i like the look of the 35 tire, makes the wheel look somewhat nicer i think... i even seen some f-150 with a 265/35 or even 265/30 but i think thats just too small.

any suggestions on tire deals and whats good for brand? i am in vegas, so barely ant rain, snow etc....

305/285/265 is just the width of the tire...the most important thing is the 30/35/40/45...height of the tires...35's will be great...make the rim look bigger than it really is and will look good with the drop...40 series if the roads are bad....just my $.02
