Just bought a 2003 EB 4x4 about six weeks ago. Has about 156k. Immediately installed new plugs & coils, amongst other things. Have taken it on a couple road trips (Amarillo-San Antonio, 500 miles each way; Amarillo-Colorado Springs, 350 miles each way). She ran like a champ! Shifted great, got good fuel mileage. (check out MPG on fuelly.com username AskMeLater) No complaints. Well, one complaint. The shocks seemed a little soft, and one of them sounded dead, so I'm going to be rectifying that with the new Bilstein shocks that are being delivered tomorrow!:favorites37: We'll be going on a >3000 mile road trip in a couple weeks. We'll see how she does.

Couple of suggestions.

I have had Bilstein's since about 75k on my 2003EB. It now has 158k. They are as good as new. Pain to install. Flush the transmission and then change the filter. Also change the front/rear axle and center diff. Have them check the clutch pack in the limited slip. If decent shape also either put the additive in, or get synthetic axle lube that has it. Also, suggest using lighter weight (70-80 max) on front and rear. Will help mileage and keep things cooler. I believe the center diff uses automatic fluid. Put in synthetic. (And synthetic transmission fluid if you can afford it).

Also, how is the galvanic aluminum corrosion on the rear door and good? Water is one of the main culprits. Gets inside then the steel around the handle around the rear creates a battery with the whole back door. Which cases corrosion behind the paint. Then the paint bubbles/comes off. When steel is wet and touching the aluminum transferring of aluminum molecules happens.

On a side note. I predict a 100-200k less sales a year for the upcoming F150. When it gets out how bad this problem is and how in 10 years Ford has not fixed the defect or honored their customers.

If the coolant is getting rough, you should be able to change to the lifetime fluid. Also, Prestone makes a great additive/lubricant for the coolant. Keeps the seals and bearings good on the cooling system. You can get 300k on the system and water pump using this combo. Oh, suggest using the bottled 50/50 mix that already has distilled or prepped water instead of tap. While at it, look for rust around the front end and radiator mount.

I think they make the "million mile hoses" that is installed on the police version. Just in case yours are collapsing or in need of changing.
