Looking for a little advice...
I'm going to tackle the muffler on my 5.4 EB. Nothing fancy, just take the stock muffler off and replace it with a glasspack. I was under it tonight and it looks pretty straight forward. Might be a dumb question, but how long can I expect the stock catalytic converters to last? The truck has 133K on it and I'm wondering if you guys would recommend I do those too, along with the muffler? No issues with them that I'm aware of and I plan on keeping the truck for a while. Just don't want to do the muffler and then be back under there in another 10K miles pulling out the cats (if that makes sense)

Any other suggestions or feedback is more than welcome!

Thanks

You will want to take your expy to a local exhaust shop to see if they will cut your rear cats off and put some straight pipe in. But your cats are probably good for quite a while yet. My expy has 173,000 miles and I haven't had any problems, and I just had a flowmaster 44 with duals welded up.

Thanks JD. So I'm not able to just removing the stock muffler and replace it with the glasspack? Rear cat has to/should come out?

no you can. but with the rear cats out you will hear and feel a big difference. here in cali we have to have all 4 on... GERR! but we recommend the rear cat delete. makes a world of difference. but yes you can just put in a glass pack. and remove the rear resonator too. thats the mini muffler hanging off the rear.

replacing muffler is straight forward... as for cats unless they go bad you won't have a problem... I only have 2 of the 4... did a rear cat delete... basically cut out cats and weld in pipe... made a huge improvement in sound and power... but many shops wont do that since it is technically illegal...

i don't have a CEL so it would pass here as long as they don't peak under the truck and see two of them missing...

and noticeable sound and power difference

so on the 2nd gens...how do i get the 02 senosrs to do what they do?

The aft cat o2 sensors don't do a whole lot from what I understand, one reason I got my SCT Xcal3 (tuner) was to be able to turn off my rear o2 sensors if they caused a cel, but just get new bungs welded in the new piping and install the o2 that way, should be good. You could get mil eliminators which trick the o2 in order to not set off a cel also.
