good thread find solismo. i have seen several of these threads and they all sound the same there are even a few on this forum that have already ran there flowmaster/magnaflow is better course. unless someone is willing to dyno each on the same truck for this forum im sure it will keep going. i have a flowmaster i love it but im curious of the magnaflow. the magnaflow is pretty cheap and help the exhaust breathe some argue you lose low end tq with the flowmaster which i will say i didnt. it only improved i question my 3" tubing all the way back from y pipe to tip. i have 4 magnaflow cats and 3 inch pipe with 40 series(cant remember which one) and i think i may have too much flow not enough back pressure. just my .02

Yeah thats way I posted it, it was people giving their real life results. Funny thing is that I have the flowmaster on my truck and I like the magnaflow lol.. Just dont feel like paying for a new muffler.

Btw if you like a unique sound look into SLP. They are cheap and sound meaner than any of those two.

and this is the link to the article he is talking about

http://www.mustang50magazine.com/tec...est/index.html

here are some more numbers

http://www.stangnet.com/mustang-foru...lowmaster.html

All muffler flow ratings are with a 2 1/2" offset inlet/offset outlet and measured at 28" H2O

Here goes:

3" Straight Pipe 705 CFM

2 1/2" Straight Pipe 485 CFM

Pypes Violator 453 CFM (louder than the Race-Pro)

Pypes Race-Pro 453 CFM

Magnaflow 436 CFM

SpinTech Pro Street 427 CFM

Borla 427 CFM (not stingers)

SpinTech Sportsman Street 402 CFM

SpinTech Truck/RV 391 CFM

Pypes Street-Pro 349 CFM

DynoMax Super Turbo 344 CFM

****** Aero Chamber 344 CFM

DynoMax Turbo 320 CFM

Flowmaster 40 series 273 CFM

Flowmaster 50 series 213 CFM (Jesus these things suck...)

For every 2.2CFM, 1 horsepower is restricted or unrestricted. That means it takes 880CFM (440x2 mufflers = 880cfm) of flow to support 400whp. Of course that is an approximation, it's not an exact science but is a pretty close estimate.

Sound Levels

No Mufflers - 91db@Idle - 103db@2000RPM - 120db@WOT

SpinTech ProStreet - 87db@Idle - 97db@2000RPM - 116@WOT

****** Aerochamber - 87db@Idle - 94db@2000RPM - 114db@WOT

Flowmaster - 82db@Idle - 93db@2000RPM - 115db@WOT

Magnaflow - 82db@Idle - 91db@2000RPM - 114db@WOT

solismo do you think i dont have enough restriction? with just the flowmaster it got better then it was stock. when i moved to az my cats went out( they all sounded like bb's and where blown out on inside) so i replaced them with the magnaflow hiflow cats and at the y pipe its 3 in and then on back. the exhaust is just perfect. nice rumble at idle and holy shit its like sex at WOT lol. i have been drivin nice lately tryin to get best mpg's but yesterday i nailed it and my wife looked at me with the biggest grin and said omg i love my truck lol. but i do feel like i might have lost a lil tq but not sure... sometimes its got plenty of power and sometimes it just feels a lil blah. i did plugs, gotts mod, k&n drop in, fuel filter, tb spacer etc idk. sometimes it feels good sometimes it feels like im pullin a house behind me

Ive been dying to share this story:hmm:

On Wed. of last week I went to my buddys shop to install my 4" tip. When they lifted the truck I was in for a surprise. Mind you, I bought the truck used, it belonged to the owner of the dealership. When I bought it, it had a tip and I knew it had an exhaust bc of the rumble but that was it, never looked under.
Present day:
When we looked under there were the headers that are 2 1/2 outlets with some tubing the same size, then there was some really small tubing (2") rigged then the exhaust. After the exhaust was a resonator, small piping, then a 3" outlet all the way back. Lets recap (headers 2 1/2, small pipe 2", flowmaster which has a 2 1/2" inlet but has the 2" pipe, then the resonator, smaller pipe, ok Im loosing track)

Anyway I had them do the proper piping, 2 1/2" piping all the way to the muffler, then removed the resonator and did 3" all the way to the tip. My buddy said that my mileage would get worse. I reset the mileage computer and it took about a week to read properly but before I was a steady 10.9/11.1 and now Im up to an 11.7

you should have taken pics. i hate shops like that. they dont have the tubing so they use what ever. or they do that so something goes wrong and you have to take it back to them.
