My auto-dimming head lights don't seem to...

title says it all. I set the lights to the A setting. Turn on the hughs and they just stay on.

Am I missing a step ? Is there a setting I need to update ?

Auto dimming in my 2021 Transit works fine...

What year and trim is your Expy? Is your vehicle equipped with Auto High-Beams? In my 2019 Owner's manual it says 'If equipped'. Do you see the Blue High-Beam Symbol with the 'A' in the Center on your Instrument Cluster when you meet the criteria for the Auto High-Beam to be active?

I don't remember if I set anything on my 2019 Platinum. But you can toggle the auto mode by pulling the headlight lever towards you and holding it until you see the auto high beam icon blink twice for disable or once for enable.

Yeah, what Mr. Big said. If I pull the lever they stay on high beams. If I have auto turned on they will Auto turn high beams on and then auto turn them off when it sees lights ahead. In most of my use cases, I don't like the auto high beams because there is enough traffic in my area that they are turning on and off all the time.

yeah, I found Ford's auto high beam to be far too twitchy... they work great on my wife's Mercedes, which fades them up and quickly shuts them down. The Mercedes (a 2016 E350) headlights also follow turns and do it smartly.

Found it... Settings, Vehicle, Lighting Auto dim on /off and also a timer. Mine was set to off and the timer was 20 seconds... I wonder. Is timer how long the lights stay on after turning the car off ? I'll have to test that... surely I wouldn't have a 20 sec delay on auto dimming... good way to get pulled over.

Pretty sure that delay is how long it keeps the lights on after you turn off the vehicle.

Correct, Auto dim on/off is for the auto high beams and the timer is for how long the lights stay on after shutting off the vehicle.

The A is to turn your headlights on automatically when it is dark out. Then auto shut off when you leave the vehicle and this time is programable with a few delay options.

There is no option to turn off your high beams if you manually turn them on.

There is an option to have your high beams automatically come on when it is dark and there are no other cars around and when the vehicle notices an oncoming car they will turn off.

Only in your opinion. I live in semi-rural America where driving on interstates and highways encounters few vehicles at night. The auto high beams work very well. Ahhh the fresh air...!!

I personally prefer less features like this for my vehicles.

I dont need a computer module to tell me when I should turn on and off the high beams , and , WHEN the module that controls that feature fails, it will cost a billion dollars to fix it. Id rather not have the feature and one less module to fix when it fails. Indeed my opinion but we have gone decades without the feature and been fine

I think it's one of the best features. They come on when needed and off before complaints. Nothing worse than someone coming towards you with their high beams on. Auto eliminates that problem.

You turn them off when another vehicle is coming towards you at 500 feet and or a vehicle is 300 feet traveling in front of you. Learned this when I was 16 while reading the book version of permit test study.

The robot has this info programmed into it as well and does it for you, but will eventually fail, and cost $2836393736382846 to fix it
