Hey everybody I just picked up a great low mileage EB edition Expy with 164,000 mi. I've fixed a few issues with it so far new radiator, hose, battery, fixed front passenger window separated from the clips, replaced headlights,1 taillight, third brake light w/LED, door ajar sensor in back hatch door, all interior lights swapped to leds. Also put switchback Leds in the front turn signals LED ,license plate bulbs, and upgraded front fog lights with projectors. Truck was a search and rescue vehicle so it has the police interceptor pkg. My question is when I put it in 4 wheel drv I hear a grinding noise passenger side front. You think it could be the carrier hub? I really like this truck and have been driving an F-150 for the last 18 yrs but haven't had a Ford w/4wd. My F150 has 435,000 mi on it and 480hp/520tq I do all my own maint. and work so I'm not afraid of tearing into stuff anyways Thanks in advance for any ideas or help

You left out the most important info in your post, what year, and engine, makes a difference in diagnosis. You posted in first edition, so I'm assuming 97-02.

Yea sorry it's a '98 w/5.4 but that wouldn't effect the 4wd part. Only thing they change is motors and tranny's sometimes the rear axle

Yeah your right pretty much, but sometimes theirs differences between years. I know next year 99, went to AWD. Couple things, are all 4 tires same size, same pattern? If the rears are bigger than fronts, it throws off the transfer case. Do you have any codes? Theirs a rear driveshaft sensor that goes bad, when it does, the front differential goes wonky, cause it doesn't measure tire slippage correct. It tries engaging the transfer motor, when it shouldn't. Also check all your bearings for play and noise. I'm sure more experienced 4x4 guys here will chime in soon.

Hey Thanks for heads up. No codes to speak of. The tires are the same size front and rear 270/65/R17's but 2 different makes BF Goodrich rear and Yokohamas front. The noise only happens on the passenger side. And only in AWD and 4wd not 2wd..

Why do you save them? The one under the hood was missing. I replaced all the bulbs except the brake ones and the ones in the cluster

Wow, 4 hours and no one. Oh well, guess it's a slow day, and all my buddies are playing in the snow. Wish we had snow here in San Francisco. It's cold for us. Down to 38 at night. Best I ever did as a kid was slide down the grass hill behind my mom's house on an old refrigerator box flattened. We get snow once every 10-15 years. Thank God!
