OBD 2 reader and data link concerns

Hello,

I purchased my 1999 XLT on August 10 and have been attempting to check for errors etc and have found nothing.

The XLT has 166K miles on it (I repaired the digital odometer) and runs well, but I'd expect to see at least "something" show up on the reader.

I have a Innova 3020 and when I hook it to the data link connector (and turn key on), it displays,"read", then beeps and displays," 0 dtc" and a yellow light. If I leave the reader hooked up, it repeats the process.

I have replaced the #3 20 amp fuse, made certain the reader pins and dlc connectors are in the proper position (not pushed in etc).

I may just be incredibly lucky and have a used vehicle in mint condition, but I find that unlikely. Can anybody point out what I should check next?

Break something. Unplug something. You should get a code if you unplug the mass air flow meter, or a coil pack with the truck parked idling.

My 2000 is the same, comes up no codes. if in doubt run it by a Midas, or O'Reilly's, and hook it up to theirs. My Expy had 0 codes both on an Innova, and a basic $60.00 reader. You know the old saying about not being broken. Change your oil/ trannny/brake fluids at regular intervals, and not worry about it. Obviously your SUV was well maintained, and your reaping the rewards, enjoy the quiet!

I may have solved my own problem. I took a picture of the DLC in my XLT and numbered the connections. I then took a picture of my Innova reader and numbered the posts. When they are connected, the DLC connection 13 is one space off from the Innova post 14.






I'll move the connector over one space and try the reader again. I'll update tomorrow

I had my mechanic check the codes this morning while he was servicing the a/c. He said there are no error codes and I shouldn't move the connector over. I am listening to my mechanic. I must be very very lucky with this purchase. Fingers crossed

Bought my '99 EB 5.4 in September '16 w/225K. Excellent condition. Meticulously maintained. $1550. No codes. Drove it from OR to WI without incident. Decided to read codes later. Showed both banks lean. Changed fuel filter; no codes since. Have only had to repair one ejected spark plug, one wheel bearing, radiator, window switch, and just gave it a front brake job. Keep up on your maintenance and fix any minor hiccups right away; yours should last a good long time!

FYI, I owned my 2000 for 10 years. I only had Service Engine Soon light, once for a coil pack and once for P0430 Cat below efficiency. Check your lower trailing arms. Ford should of recalled them. Dodge are famous for there constant engine lights(gas cap). The 1st gen Expeditions are excellent vehicles and sold in record numbers. Many still on the road going on 20 years old and 100K-200k miles. Ford made them 'too good". The 2nd gen were full of issues. Kind of funny?
