Octane Case Study

Used the same gas station and tried different octanes/mixes over the course of several months. Found 89 to be the best balance of performance and fuel efficiency.

Higher octane is more about performance, power, and maybe running cooler, than about mileage...even though mileage should improve a bit also

It's a nice try but there are clearly some significant variables at play other than octane. Getting 17 mpg in one set and 13.7 in another (with 112 miles being a small sample), we definitely aren't seeing the whole story here

I would like to see comparisons with zero ethanol gasoline.

It could have been more city vs highway miles but I felt like we drove it pretty consistently. One things for certain… the engine did not get good mileage whenever I used 93. I had expected the opposite. Maybe 91 (what’s recommended for my 2018) would be even better than the 89.
