as you all know this is a new to me truck with 110,xxxmi on it everything runs good shifts good cools good. have no mechanical issues except a knocking noise coming from the front going over bumps, like the suspension is loose. i suspect ball joints but eventually going through the whole truck little by little as budget allows. i found a good groupon deal for an oil change and any service of my choice for $35, tranny flush, coolant flush, power steering flush, or brake fluid flush. i dont know if these transmissions are prone to failure after a flush or not but leaning more towards that one, as i can do the coolant flush easier than a tranny flush. my question is would you go for the tranny flush as well? i know it would be ideal to change the tranny filter but budget and time do not allow for materials right now. i also know that it will cost a little more than $35 for it due to 7qts of oil but for the price i think its a good deal. what do you think?

My wife is going on raod trip to San Diego, CA with it in middle of july so i want to get a couple services done to her (haha) first.

@ 110,000 miles its probably a good idea to do the tranny filter as well unless you know it has been serviced before.


One item I would check would be the end links on the front sway bar as far as your clunking noise. I had one break off before.

My dad's 04 makes a similar noise. We have narrowed it down to lower ball joints as well. We are going to replace upper and lowers on the front of it this weekend, I can let you know if it solves the noise. I have a feeling it is common on the 2nd gens.

I would flush the transmission as well at that point. As tom said do the filter while its in the shop.

Yeah we tried to press out the old lowers on the 04 and they would not budge. We ended up ordering the entire lower control arm for each side...

thanx for the input guys. i agree with changing the tranny filter as well but i just thought for basically getting a free tranny flush now would give me some time to save for the filter, oil, and time. time is actually my main problem, im an HVAC tech and its HOT in Phoenix now = me being really busy.lol. It also sux working on it when its 110 outside. But i also would feel better sending it to San Diego if i knew it had at least fresh engine oil, tranny oil, and coolant. hence jumping on the Groupon deal.
