Catching hell with the coolant system on my 2000 Expedition (5.4L). I have replaced the water pump, rear heater core, radiator, lower radiator hose, coolant temperature sensor (a cheapie from Amazon that had good reviews), clutch fan and thermostat (4x) trying to solve an overheating issue. I have also flushed the system 3x. Mysteriously it does not run hot when I run it without a thermostat. I ran a chemical test at the reservoir (given that the radiator is sealed) that didn’t pick up any exhaust traces).
I have vacuum filled the coolant, and used the large funnel set to ‘overfill’ the reservoir and no matter what it’s still overheating. I am not losing any coolant and both the oil and coolant look good. I have massaged the upper radiator hose and put a tee into the heater core line coming from the top of the engine.
When ‘hot’ the upper radiator hose is barely warm to the touch but there is quite a bit of variation between the temps of the lines coming and going from the heater core (hoping that I don’t need to replace or bypass it).
Has anyone had issues like this or have a solution to the problem?
