Okay, so my parking lights have been acting up for a couple of weeks now. My headlights were set to Auto and when I turned my car off and waited a few seconds they would go out with the headlights. But a few seconds later, they would pop back on and I would have to flip my switch a couple time to get them to go back off. Now they aren't going off when I flip the switch. They're staying on!!! I have to unhook my battery every time I get out of my car. Auto zone thinks it's in the switch, one mechanic said it's in the security, and I am lost! Has this happened to anyone else? Does anyone know what it could be?

Thanks,
Sara

Sara, I bet your floor at the driver's feet is getting wet too. It sounds like you are getting water on to the GEM module and that is causing it to do funky things with the truck. The fix for this is to have the windshield resealed (any windshield place can do this for you for around $100). Then you will have to dry out the GEM module.

Thank you so much! My floor has gotten wet.... the seal around the window on the driver's side used to leak water when it rained. We fixed that a while back though, even before the parking lights started messing up at all. Where is the GEM module at? Can I dry it out myself or do I need to take it to a mechanic. I don't really trust many mechanics. lol. I have been ripped off so bad in the past by them, but I do have this guy who works on Fords who can do it for me, but I would still like to know what he will be doing before he does it....

Sara here is what needs to be done to remove the GEM Module. As easlily as I can explain it.

REMOVAL:

Disconnect the battery ground cable. CAUTION: Electronic modules are sensitive to electrical charges. If exposed to these charges, damage may result.

Remove the steering column opening cover.

Remove the bulkhead electrical connectors from the instrument panel fuse junction panel.

Remove the instrument panel fuse junction panel bolts and remove the interior fuse junction panel nuts.

Disconnect the GEM electrical connectors from the GEM.

Remove the screws and the GEM.

NOTE: When the battery is disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns itself. The vehicle may need to be driven 10 mi or more to relearn the strategy.
