Payload Decreased?

We have a 2022 Expedition Max XLT. Our payload is just a little over 1,800 pounds. We were loaned a 2024 Expedition Max XLT equipped exactly like ours, minus our moon roof. The payload was only 1,550 pounds. What happened to the newer models that decreased the payload? Were there some changes made that reduced payload capacity?

My guess is the loaner might not have the hd tow package. Our 23 Max Limited is over 1700#s of payload and it has HD tow.

It did have the heavy duty tow package. The only difference between the loaner and our Expedition is ours has a moonroof, which should have decreased our payload relative to loaner. One of the things I like about the Expedition was it provided about 100 lbs more payload than our old F-150, while weighing about 500 pounds more, so this surprised me. We tow a travel trailer a few times a year, and payload is always the limiting factor. I sure hope they haven’t decreased payload on the Expedition.

Yeah I have a 23 Powerboost with the 6.5 bed and payload is marginal. We have a 7600# gross camper and with gear and family it’s close to maxing out. But it still tows like a dream and actually squats less and is more stable than my 18 Ecoboost that had more payload. Haven’t towed with the Exped but I’m sure it’d do fine except I’d miss the trailer mirrors. Expeditions are people movers and need the payload.

It would be really nice to get an answer on this. I am shopping for a 2024 Expedition XLT (Non Max), and i can see the payload has decreased by 200 lbs versus 2022 XLTs. Is ford so incompetent that they are putting incorrect stickers on these cars or has something actually changed

The heavy tow pack isn’t a common option most are the basic configuration. I highly doubt they loaned out a rare heavy tow pack EXp. The payload spec fits the different packages to a T.
