After 8 months of trying to locate the reason our 2003 Eddie Bauer Expedition would all of a sudden die while we were driving it. A solution appeared.

One of the circuit boards in the PDJB (Fuse Box-Interior) needs to be replaced.

Where do I find circuit boards or components to R&R?

5 times our Expedition went to the dealer for repair and on our last visit they suggested that we not bring it back to them. Tried to involve the Ford Corp. but they referred my information back to the same dealer and no other action was taken. I don't think that was right and though my vehicle is nearly 10 years old, they built it and should stand behind it.

I can buy a PDJB for $375 from dealer.... However I can better afford to repair what I have or find a less expensive after market 'fuse box'.

I also need to figure out why the board shorted in the first place...

Thanks!

Look at your local wrecking yards. You should be able to get a complete fuse box for $200 or so. Looking on E-bay, they have them for around $250 or so. Granted, the one seller (2004 FORD EXPEDITION 5.4L FUSE BOX 4L1T-14A067-AC | eBay) has a fuse box with a problem that sounds a lot like what you are experiencing If you can pull the fuse box out and have some knowledge with a soldering iron, the repair can probably be done for next to nothing.

As for finding a circuit board to just drop in there, odds are you are not going to find it. There are places that you can send them the fuse box and they will repair the fuse box. But, that means for a week or so, you will be without the truck since it will be missing a lot of the power stuff needed to make it run.

Are you getting any water leakage from the windshield? This was considered the cause of some of the failures. When the box is out look at the 2 large connector sockets on the back side for any traces of water or dried residue from previous leakage

Thanks to everyone. After months of frustration over this vehicle I filled it with at least a thousand rounds of hollow points... Nah... I didn't.... Put in a call to the owner of the dealership with the hope that since his company couldn't fix my wife's vehicle after 5 visits that he give me a reduction on the price of the part. He called me back four days later and offered to sell me the fuse box at his cost. It wasn't but 30 minutes earlier I had ordered the part from tascaparts(THANKS ELVATO). $245 and change with warranty. Got it the next day. Unfortunately once installed and the Exped started, the door locks, windows and other stuff didn't work.... Took it out and re-calibrated the board . Yes tascaparts had my vin number but for whatever reason another extra step had to be taken.... Its running great....

Why did it happen in the first place... ? Checked for water damage but there wasn't any.... however, a short time before we started experiencing problems I had an outfit that specializes in trailers hook up new wiring so that the Exped could operate the electric brakes of a horse trailer. Its won't be hooked up until I can confirm that the device utilized did not put an excessive current load on the circuit board that got fried. Thanks for your thoughts and support.... You guys have been great!
