Phone as a Key (Full Use) - Hardware/ Firmware

So it seems like only the Tremor and Platinum Ultimate will have this option installed but I am wondering what it would take exactly to activate it on the other trims? I've noticed that Sync 4a is getting the firmware pushed to most vehicles for it but with the new Expeditions being an Android system, how would this affect the Phone as a Key and what hardware is actually needed?
Is it something as seemingly simple as a Bluetooth module inside the truck that would connect with the phone when nearby? Could it be possible to add it aftermarket?

I guess I should rephrase this for clarity.
I plan on getting a 2025 King Ranch Expedition. How can I get full access to Key as a Phone on this trim?

dont believe you can, from my understanding, only plat ultimate and plat performance get it. I got the plat performance partially for this reason.

clarifying comment, whose to say what the future could bring, the android/"ford digital experience" is pretty new to ford in general. Jesse-Infotainment guy has been doing lots of cool/unique/crazy things with ford sync for years, whose to say what he could bring to the table in the future, but i wouldnt count on it, it its a hard requirement for you, get one of the trims that comes with it.

I hear ya... And congrats on making an order! While it is a bit of a hard requirement for me, I have other harder requirements like the color of the leather seats, unfortunately.

From the 2025 Expedition Order Guide:

Tremor includes Phone as a Key as standard equipment.

Platinum includes Phone as a Key with Platinum Ultimate Package or Stealth Performance Package.


King Ranch make no mention of Phone as a Key which, frankly, seems odd since the King Ranch builds on the Platinum (600A) trim line.

Well that's what makes me think it's something that could easily be added with a piece or hardware or a tweak to the programming somehow.
