Power Seat Issue

Hey, All,
New here, so I hope I'm posting in the proper area. I just picked up an '11 XLT that is completely loaded. Only problem is that the power driver's seat doesn't come all the way forward. Fine for me, but not my wife. Could someone advise any ideas for the cause and resolution? I've gone over it with a fine tooth comb for obstructions and can find none. It soudns like it's tripping out the relay on current, though, so I'm stymied.
Glad you guys are out here on the web and hope someone can point me towards a fix!

first off, welcome. Post some pics when you get a chance.

Have you looked underneath the seat? Is there something caught up in the cog/screw drive-wheel underneath. this is a common problem preventing it from recoiling all the way forward. If they are still the same since mine is a '97, if you look on the right-side of the pic, you'll see what I'm describing.

recommend looking from behind the driver's seat, pull it as far forward as it will go and shine a flashlight/drop light underneat and look. DO NOT OPERATE the controls while you're poking around under there.

Let us know what you find.

additionally, didn' they offer the drivers' side extended/moveable pedals at one point.

Thanks for taking the time to consider this, Panhandler. What you describe is very much what I did the other night (for over an hour). All the way forward, look in at both sides. All the way back, look at both sides. I can't see a single thing that would cause an obstruction. Also, being only an '11, I found it to be predictably clean and rust-free as well.
Last night again I played with it and kept moving it forward and back with a bit of added effort from myself - the hope being that if it was a rough spot I might help it overcome and then "smooth out" this area of the track. No such luck. Well, maybe marginally - but it could also be wishful thinking on my part. At 1am one starts to get a tad unrealistic about their accomplishemnts.
I'm thinking seat removal is next, which really bites. With my luck I'll end up blowing an air bag or some such.
It's really a great truck apart from this one aspect. OH! also since last night I noticed that the whole time I was playing and setting the #1 and #2 memory positions, the pedals would also automatically adjust accordingly. Today, however, they weren't. They still operated with the in-out button, but not on the memory button. Odd?

three bolts and the one giant torx to remove them. your plastic electrical connectors should be pliable and not break like us older gens.

Even though you sound like a pretty hands-on kind of person, you can always swing by the dealership so they can have a look. Ford certified techs are specially trained to track down issues like this one.

Let us know how things progress!

This is the first time in a while that I've bought a vehicle that is out of warranty and from my experience having warranty work done, I'd avoid the dealership and $100/hour labour rates when footing the bill myself. If I could be assured that the tech was a MasterMechanic or at least very competent, then I'd do it in a heartbeat. However, to have someone pour over it for hours on end only to finally tell me that the whole assembly needs to be replaced just doesn't work for me. Sadly, every time I've said to myself "just let a tech do it - you don't have the time for this", I'm horribly disappointed and blame myself for not just sitting down and fixing it myself. I hate to sound like I'm disparaging the techs wholesale for I do know many (even personally) who are amazing. The problem is, it's luck of the draw and you just don't know who you'll get.
Please, forgive me if this sounds harsh. It isn't meant to. It's just a case of having been burned too often for things I should have just done myself.
PS: I'm a pretty die-hard ford fanatic, so my criticisms tend to come from my desire to see Ford flourish. I fill out every survey they send me with my opinions and recommendations, all in an effort to make my favourite car company even better!

I hope you'll have better luck with your 2011 seat than I've had with my 2007 front seats. I've had the tracks replaced on both of them at least once, and I think twice each, but I can't remember for sure, because several times I've complained about them to the dealer and they say there is nothing wrong. My seats rock back when I accelerate and the driver's seat feels like sand was used to lubricate the sliding mechanism. I hate having to pay my $100 deductible to have them fix things that I've already had fixed more than once.
