Pulling From Snow

Saw a Minivan was stuck in the snow today. Ended up pulling it out, my first rescue not in a Jeep.
Question: I used 4wd Hi - it seemed do well, the rescue was a good one, but I was not sure if I should have used 4wd Lo and used less gas pedal.
I did smell some rubber, assumed it was the tires on the snow and ice... Kept RPMs to less than 2500 or so.
Any feedback? Things to do better?

It's all condition dependant. You may have needed the tire spin to generate traction on the snow/ice pack. 4lo revs quickly and doesn't generate as much wheel spin. And if you go too fast in 4lo, you over speed the transmission.

If you were on clear pavement, then 4lo is the right selection (depending on condition of the vehicle being recovered).

Gotcha. Yeah, traction was at a premium - I was on skates trying to move between the vehicles.

on 4 hi you dont have to worry about flooring it too much, and its what I use here. I pop someone out of a bank or a mass of snow every storm, my street is a trap.

In both my XJ and my Expy, I just use 4hi.
