My wiper arm is broken and I plan to replace it soon.

I believe the reason it is broken is because the piece that hangs down and is supposed to engage the piece on the lift gate don't line up. This causes the end of the wiper blade to be in the way of the rear window. When I shut the window, I have to hold the wiper out of the way or it gets smashed in the window.

I had tried to slide the piece further up the arm so that it would engage the other piece, but it didn't move and I didn't want to break it. I did notice at the junk yard that every Expedition I saw also had the wiper arm not mating up with the other piece. Is this normal?

I didn't explain it very well I guess. It's not the blade, it's the arm. The blade length wouldn't effect the piece I am talking about.

The piece on the arm has a "post" and the piece on the door has a hole. When the wiper comes down at rest, the post is supposed to ride up the fixed piece and land in the hole. this pulls the wiper away from the window, and holds it in place. (at least that's how I think it's supposed to work). But the post doesn't match up to the hole. It's a little bit left, so they never engage.
