So, I have been trying to diagnose a rattling sound on my 2012 expedition limited 2wd that only happens on acceleration. This sound is not present at idle, when in park and I hit the gas, nor when I brake torque it. At first I thought it was bad gas from sams club. So I filled up from a half a tank with chevron gas and put a bottle of techron in the tank. The sound is still just as prevalent. I have looked for any loose heat shields and have found none. I then thought maybe its pinging due to a vacuum leak. I can find no vacuum leak. I am at a loss as to what it could be. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, about 5500 miles ago I replaced the timing chains, tensioners, cam phasers, chaing guides and vct solenoids by following fordtechmakulocos 4 part video series on it. I have had no problems until the past 2 weeks and have even taken it on a 2000 mile road trip after the timing components were replaced. Below is a link to a video I took to help you know what I am hearing.

Have you tried the heat-shield on the exhaust crossover pipe next to the transmission crossmember? The clamp on the driver's side rusts out and falls off. A replacement pipe clamp fixes the issue.

I just checked that based on you recommendation. The clamp on that heat shield is still there and tight. The welds on the passenger side are still there and unbroken as well.

Just posted this in another thread. My mech told me air is escaping from the manifold (headers) area. No biggie. But needs to be fixed eventually. thx

Is there a way to verify that air is leaving the headers? I don't see any physical signs of a manifold leak...

Get in there with a piece of paper to see if it wiggles or have someone put oil directly in the throttle body while you watch for smoke, or poke around with a stethoscope while someone hits the throttle, or borrow a sniffer. Also get underneath and tap around on everything with a rubber mallet.

I'm still trying to figure this rattle out. I am pretty sure it isn't an exhaust leak of any kind. It literally only happens when I hit the gas and move. It won't happen I. Nuetral or park and it wo t happen when brake torquing until the wheels spin. Yet I am almost positive the sound is coming from the front of the vehicle.
