Anyone had a rear diff output shaft seal leak (drivers side) yet? Noticed some oil drops on the garage floor and the rear diff housing has gear oil drops on it. Guess that is something for the dealer to do hopefully under warranty.

How many miles? Is there a breather on it?

38k km. There has to be a breather in it. However don’t really off-road the truck… besides dirt road.
That ain't all that much. Wonder if the breather failed and it's pushing oil. You playing in the snow? I've seen breathers frozen up and plugged. Brake pads on that side are probably soaked.

Well, it was cold last week… but my brakes never froze and the truck is inside an attached garage. So frozen up breather tube? I highly doubt that.

An axle seal at under 25,000 is strange. A pinion seal maybe, but axle, yours is the first I've read about. If I can reach a buddy that works at a dealer I'll ask him if he's seen them often.

My rear pinion leaked around 80k miles. It was covered under ESP.

Ok. So the part is in stock and I got an appointment on Thursday. Let’s see what they find.

It follows that if they have the part they must know where it goes and what the problem is. Let's hope its a quick repair.

I had an appointment within 3 days, seal was in stock and about 2 hrs to get my Expy fixed. Cost: warranty.

My old seal came out in 2 pieces! No wonder it was leaking. Axle shafts looked fine. Not sure the cause about the seal splitting in 2 pieces.

So assuming a pinion seal is bad…what’s the possible damage?
I purchased a 23 with 60k on the clock and a dealer changed pinion seal.
So I’m assuming it was leaking for an unknown amount of time.
I have a significant roar on down coast and I’m wondering if my gears are cooked.
The roar is only on deceleration coast at sub 30mph.
