I just thought this was funny enough to share. I had my Expedition at the dealership for an oil change/tire rotation. The counter guy came out and told me that the tech found a mouse nest behind the battery. I went and looked at it, and sure enough, a mouse nest was located in a wide-open space, easily accessible right behind the battery towards the firewall. The dealership wanted $75 to remove the nest! Obviously, I declined the extra and told them "I'll take care of it." I got home and it literally took me longer to put on rubber gloves than it did to remove the nest. Less than one minute. The nest was constructed of two handfuls of threads from a towel in my garage. There were no dead mice, no fecal matter...nothing. I'm thinking it built the nest, and then I drove the Expedition the next day, and the mouse hightailed it out of there, never coming back. I could see $75 if the nest was in the air intake or buried somewhere deep in the engine bay....and actual labor would be necessary to remove it, but this wasn't the case. So, if any of you would like a nest removed from your engine bay, I'm your man...for the low, low price of $69.99! LOL

Did the $75 dealer estimate include the shop supplies and hazardous waste removal charges, and the credit card use convenience fee?

What shop supplies were needed? Rubber gloves and mask? There’s less than $1 in supplies. Even if there was a fee for hazardous waste..say $30. The $75 is exorbitant, as there is far less than 3 minutes of labor involved. The dealership charges the same for cash or credit card. Even the guy I know who works behind the counter told me he thought the $75 was excessive, before I said a word.

On another note, I was at another dealership on Monday, getting an oil change done on my wife’s car. I asked the counter guy what they charge to remove a rodent’s nest…He said if the nest is buried and/or hard to extract, no more than $35.

Good fortune on your part to drive off before the meeses finished setting up house. They built a nest on top of the fuel tank of my wife's F-150 and gnawed through the vent hose. $$$ spent to get it fixed.

Buy some peppermint oil and spray it heavily on your hood insulation, wires, and firewall. I have soaked cotton balls with it and placed them in my shock towers. Rodents hate this smell and won't nest or chew your wires.
