I have a couple of questions about the steering stabalizer you have on your exby.
1. Do you have to install this when you go with a larger tire 265 to 285?
2. How much does it cost to install and is it something you can do yourself?
3. and since I don't really know anything about the stablizer, what does it actually do?

Any info appreciated. I'm thinking of moving up to a 285 tire and justed wanted to know how well your truck performs with the bigger tires.

Thanks

Is it necessary...not really. Since it is easy to install (one person about one hour), and cheap (about $70), and since it provides some increased safety and reduces wear & tear on your steering system, it is a no-brainer.

It is just a shock for the streering system. What it does for you is provide for a more controlled reaction to any large forces put into your steering system from issues with the raod or your tire.

Say for example you hit a rut, or blow a front tire. The force input to the steering system can be quite large. The stabilizer absorbs some of this force (FYI, shocks work on a velocity input. The faster the force is applied, the more the shock works to dissipate this energy by forcing oil through valves...creating heat).

Folks with really big tires (44" Monster Mudders or something like that) definitely should have them on their truck, and usually have dual units. But for our size tires, like I say above, it provides some nice benefits for the time and money.
