I have a 2000 5.4 4WD No Air Suspension of any kind

I went to Mavis Discount Tire, I inquired about replacing my front and rear shocks, they quoted me a price of $320 for all 4 installed. I asked what kind of shocks, they said " Monroe " I am sure this is a fine replacement overall from the current rusted worn out original shocks that are in this truck but does anyone have any suggestions ?

I should mention that doing these myself isnt really an option right now as I dont have the tools or time time...

I ordered Bilsteins for the front from Summit. Think I paid about $150 for them. I can't help with labor rate because installed them myself. They made a huge difference in the way the truck rode and handled. IMO Bilstein is a better choice then Monroe for not much more money.

I just bought Gabriel Ultras for $40 each and couldn't be happier. However, my 00 may have been running on the originals, and ANY shocks would have been a massive improvement!

I'd go to another garage. The answer 'Monroes' doesn't help you at all. That's like asking for a set of tires for a Ford.

Go somewhere where they are helpful and knowledgeable. Having been in the business, I will tell you that there is a big difference between cheapo shocks and a performance shock. The Expy rolls around enough on it's own, you don't want to make it worse with some junk shocks. I had adjustable Rancho RS90000s on my truck and it made a world of difference.

Very interesting as Monroe and Rancho are part of the same company Tenneco Inc

And in 1990 Tenneco Inc purchased Rancho

Where did you get those? I have the originals with 143k miles so I need to change, which I'll do at home.

What I was saying is that monroe makes at least 8 different shocks.
Are they going to put in an econo-matic, a gas magnum or a sensa-trac?

There IS a difference.

I put in the sensatrac I'm glad I let them do it, I dont have the tools necessary, the guy had a VERY hard time getting the old rusty bolts out in the back
