My 2000 with 5.4 rattles around 3000 rpm.
Not lower or higher.
Sounds like a lifter.
Wouldn't a lifter be more broad in rpm range?
Any ideas?
Help me please.

I have a similar issue, but I know my exhaust manifolds are bad. I'm thinking it may just be an exhaust leak, should know soon.
Mine is more noticable in high speed/low load conditions (like right before shifting). Doesn't happen during steady cruising.
Doesn't seem to be piston slap or rod knock, my recollection is that is really bad when decelerating or steady, light load but goes away on hard acceleration/high load.
You might also try switching oil brands/weights. My 98 5.4 calls for 5W-30, I know alot of people run 10W-40 or 10W-30 instead. If you aren't sure what is in your oil pan, I would recommend 5W-30 Castrol as a baseline, try something different on the next change. I figure if all else fails, go with what the manufacturer recommends!
