Ign coil broke at fastening screw. Replaced coil (ind) and plug cause it shot out making loud popping noise. New plug won't thread in. Is threading stripped

Sure sounds like it. What year is your SUV? I'm guessing 97-02. A real common problem on 97-02 expeditions. The problem as you'll read here on the forum, is Ford in their infinite wisdom only put 4 instead of 8 threads, in a soft aluminum cylinder head. You or a shop are going to have to install a thread insert in that cylinder hole. Wish I had better news, but that's the skinny, good luck, and welcome to the forum.
