a bit of a stretch on this one, but on older cars I've had hard starting problems caused by old/bad grounds... you take your multimeter, set for DC Volts, one probe on the starter body, and the other probe on the battery minus terminal, while someone tries to start. voltage readings much over a few 0.1V suggest a bad ground, maybe at the starter, maybe at the engine block, maybe at the battery. You can narrow this down by testing voltage from starter motor body to engine block, and engine block to battery - terminal while cranking.
