Starting problem after driven in rain

Have 2000 Eddie Bauer Expedition with 5.4, bought new. Has 114,000 miles. When driven in rain and parked overnight engine will start but not idle. Can feather engine to keep running. Have found while feathering engine, put in drive and it will idle. Checked all accessory pulleys. Any suggestions?

When was the last time you had a tune up and You could have a bad mass air sensor. The moisture in the intake tube during the night could throw faulty voltage readings that would cause it to not idle properly. I have also seen guys that oiled there k&n filter to much and it caused a similar problem by keeping the mass air sensor greasy.

I had the same problem. Turned out to be the ACV. Changed it and and it doesnt stall any more.

Do you mean the IAC Idle Air Control? It is the item that regulates the idle speed and sometimes gets stuck and won't cause the truck to idle.

Did you check to make sure it wasn't a bad spark plug or coil? I have had that problem after driving in the rain. Mine would idle but really rough.

Looked up the part and it was called Idle Air Control Valve

WD40 was made just for this problem by NASA. It stands for water displacement on the 40th try. Keep a large can of WD40 in your truck. Next time you have this problem (if you do not have a engine scanner) start disconnecting electronic connections (IE all of your sensors) and spray them down with wd40 one by one. And try to start your truck after spraying each connector down. Wd40 is heavier then water and moves the water off the connector, processes of elimination. You could also spray your engine down with your garden hose at your house and try to figure it out on your leisure. :) :)

If its the IAC and your fairly mechanically knowledged rip out the whole throttle body and clean it. Don't forget to get new gaskets for the IAC, throttle body - manifold, and EGR. Theres another gasket in there but you don't need to remove that one to clean her.
