The steering shaft in my 2000 Expedition is making a loud clunk when I turn the wheel, which is being caused by the collapsible joint in the middle of the shaft (seen in the picture). When I push/pull on the steering shaft, the joint is allowing almost an inch of movement. What I mean by movement is that I'm able to bend the shaft when I push on it. Is this amount of play/clunking sound normal, or is it something dangerous that will cause me to lose control of the steering eventually? How difficult it is to replace this, and would I have to replace the entire shaft? Thanks.
