OK

My wipers are starting to piss me off. When I bought the expy they wouldn't work so I took the switch apart cleaned it and they started working fine. Two days later they failed again. No big deal I put a new 90 buck switch in and it goes crazy the wipers won't turn off and turning the switch from off to any setting turns the sprayers on.Put the old switch back and they work fine for two days again. Then I go out today and again they won't turn on.This is really getting on my nerves.Any ideas what I should be looking at?

okay this is weird! my '98 has had a issue with the sprayer working. so i bought a new part and put it in...SAME PROBLEM YOU HAVE! they came on would not turn off and turning them up would cause it to spray! wtf!

no idea how to help, i put my old part back in also and just fight with the sprayer button. i'm thinking about hitting up the junk yard for a used part.

OK quick update got mad trying to fix this problem and hit the column.I know not the best way to treat a car but I hate electrical gremlins.Anyway this made the wipers work again so I kinda have a feeling the connector in the column is to blame.I'll update when I take the column apart for like the fifth darn time.

bowman, it is possible that the connector is the root of your issues, but you need to also look at the wiring inside the column. This is especially true if you like to run the steering column up and down when getting in/out of the truck. It may be possible that some of the wires have gotten shorted together and whey you mess with the switch, you are moving the wiring bundle, leading to the wires moving around, changing the problem you are seeing (this would also explain why hitting the side of the steering column causes things to change).

take a look at the plug first, but if that is where it should be, work your way down the wiring harness another foot.

i'll have to look who made my new switch. i bought it from RockAuto Auto Parts and they accepted it as a return so idk yet.

i checked the plug and the top of the harness and all looked fine. i always run with the steering wheel all the way up and never move it.

Rockauto is where mine came from too. They must have a bad batch. It's raining so I haven't had a chance to check it yet.To make matters worse the 4wd switch is not working even after replacing the shift motor.
