Sunroof Drains

Where exactly are they located? Tried my google-fu but couldn't find a diagram. I've got one that is clogged I believe because after it rains as you back down the driveway, water leaks down in the second row seating area.

Do I open the sunroof to access, see then?

If someone could point me to a diagram that shows them that would be awesome. Like I said I tried to find one but obviously I did something wrong as I can't find one.

Open the sunroof, around the corners when it is open there are 4 of them total, I used an air nozzle and about 50 psi, it didn't fit tight in the hose, but worked just fine.

I use weed eater string instead of compressed air, but whatever works!

I like the string. There are fittings that can blow off if the clog is too hard, the hose too old or the pressure too high. On the Explorers they come out on the door jamb, and I unclog them from there too.

Harbor Freight sells a wiring snake made from fiberglass the are perfect for clearing these drains.
I keep an 8 foot piece handy just for this

Where are the rear drains exiting at? On our 06 there is water pouring in randomly by the rear of the side windows and I thought it may have been the rear vent window not seating all the way, but it appears to be coming from somewhere behind the plastic above that area. Kinda guess it could be sunroof drains if they are back that far

Ours was the rear ac vent, when ever you back out of/down the driveway after a rain, water would pour from the rear passenger side ac vent.

Weed eater line, and the air compressor fixed that issue.

Ok, just trying to figure out if there is an easy way to get to the drains now to clear them. I saw one post a while back that someone had removed the headliner, but that was also to fix water rolling over the tray edge. Since it isn't leaking at the sunroof, but at the very back of the vehicle, I figured if it was sunroof related, it would be the drains.

Got compressed air, and wire to use, just looking for easy method since there is no direct view of the drains like the front.

You probably already know this, but the start of the drains are in the rear corners of the sunroof, very similar to the front. Use the string/wire and just feed it back into and down the drains.

If you can't clear it without disassembly, Michael William fixed his rear drains in October with this method "I fixed it by removing the middle and back row column upper trim and then the entire rear panel. Then I removed the exterior trim from above the wheel well, put an inspection scope down the access hole near the rear door, and used long shish kabob sticks and a wire hanger to remove the obstruction at the end of my tube."

Hey guys. I’m stuck. Having the same problem as the OP but I can’t find the drain holes to perform maintenance and my headliner is stained on one side from runoff. Can someone please show either pics or a ford diagram as to where the holes are in the sunroof and where they exit on a 19 Max? I’ve tried looking everywhere and nothing. If I Googled “Monkey riding horse shooting gun” I would get more results than what I’ve found online for this Damm sunroof. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

I don't know the '19 Expedition, never even looked closely at one. I have however, worked on an insane number of sunroofs. In every case there is a drain hole in each corner, usually 1/8-3/16" diameter and often not easy to see without a pen style flashlight that you can lay in the channel. It might be easier to find the drains by standing up through the sunroof. The front drains usually run down the A pillars some of the modern sunroofs are so big the rear drains might possibly go down the C pillars.

I have been very successful using a blow gun with my air compressor to blow the crap that's plugged up the drains right out. In 1 case the drain hose was kinked in the A pillar. I figured the kinked hose issue out using lawn trimmer string since it's fairly stiff, but still flexible and I had like a 100' roll of it.

Ok so I did find the front drains and the trick with weed whacker string worked perfectly. Now, with the sunroof open fully I still can’t find the rear drains, but wonder if anyone knows where the water exits so I can go that way.

Well that's good news on the front drains. If you didn't you might just try to go fishing with the trimmer line and see if you can find the drain. Usually they are found in the corner so you might have a shot at it.

Otherwise hopefully someone will chime in with some specific drain location info on your 2019 Expedition.
