Just throwing this out there in case anyone else has this issue and is sick of it. Long story short, tracks on my sunroof broke a while back and I'm not going to repair it anytime soon. However, my sunshade has the absolutely annoying habit of slowly opening itself over time. When the sunroof worked, I would have to run the re-calibration procedure in order to get the sunshade to go back to fully closed. Now that my sunroof is broke, I can't do that. So, today I decided to drop the headliner (Just held on with a bunch of magnets lol) and triage and figure out how to get power to the sunshade motor and close it that way, or somehow manually close it and then prevent it from opening again.
Turns out, it was much easier than I expected and I did way more work than needed. I pulled my headliner almost completely down and also almost completely removed the entire sunroof assembly trying to find the actual sunshade motor. This vid here was very helpful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=usxt4aBW0HA
I wasn't able to find the right combo of wires to power the sunshade closed, but from that vid above I was able to determine which motor it was. I took that motor off, striped it down, and rigged it so a simple Allen key inserted into the gearbox can open and close the sunshade if needed. Now that its closed and the motor is no longer functional I hope the shade won't be able to slowly open on its own. If it does, very simple to pull down the headliner above passenger side rear door and tighten it again with an Allen.
If I decide to replace the entire sunroof, I'm no longer intimidated by the process. Pretty straightforward. Just not worth the $2k for a refurb. Who knows how much ford wants!
