Just installed 87 octane program and I'd recommend anybody that doesn't have one get one.

I would really like to know the benefit as well.

I have used both the Superchip Flashpaq and Diablo Sport tuners.
Superchip was installed on a 2005 GTO with 400HP
and the Diablo Sport was installed on a 2007 Dodge Charger Hemi with 350HP and I saw no real HP gain or gas mileage increase on either.

So I am a little optimistic on what a tuner will do for a 99 Ford 5.4L Windsor with 260HP.

I really noticed a big gain in torque. Highway mileage improved because it will stay in overdrive more times than not while passing/climbing hills.
I want to run the performance setting but you have to run super/premium gas, and we all know how thirsty these trucks are.
Combined with the k&n fipk, it runs really strong on the 5.4, gotta love the growl of the intake!!

Did you get the Flashpaq 1865?

I've been looking for a tuner but I don't want to spend a whole lot more on this truck.. I really wish there was an opensource diy option for this platform..

I'm running the flashpak. Noticeably better for performance but mpg way down. On 87 octane setting.

Would you guys mind pointing an old school wrencher and total chip newbie to a DIY on the whole superchip install, tune and selection process? Like shultz, I know nothing...

My #1 goal would be to improve fuel economy on 87 octane - don't care about increasing acceleration. I like 'em slow. THANKS!

the programmers are hand-held computers that connect to the OBDII port...depending on brand/model you can adjust speed limiter...tire ratios...shift points...gear ratios on top of ecu settings such as 87 and 91 octane performance...my superchips cortex 1950 has Gas-X saver which will increase my mpg's on my vehicle...response throttle response is slower and acceleration lags but thats for mpg purposes...on performance settings...throttle response is immediate...torque increased...hp up a little but in city driving mpg's are down and hwy mpg only up 1 or 2 per mile...definitely notice the difference with both settings compared to stock...gas saver vs stock almost feels the same with great mpg...87 performance makes the truck come ALIVE and literally feels like a different truck...when i hit the gas...IT MOVES...lol

Freeway: Does the Cortex have a towing setting? How're the shift points and firmness in performance mode?

I'm thinking of a tuner as well and like the MPG idea addition. Is the Cortex the only one that offers this but still offers the benefits of all other tuners? How about information display like the edge?

in addition to Tony's questions, Freeway, do any of these programers do double duty as code readers? Would like to get the most bang for the buck when I plunk it down.
