@DieselMonk I bought the vehicle new, Ford Pass app did work for the first couple of years. The only noticeable issues I have is Ford Pass not working and sometimes odd behavior with Sync (phone not connecting, screen being slow etc.).

@Trainmaster I did check fuses & tried battery disconnects. I did not tear into dash to check TCU connections so I can’t rule that out as a potential.

I don't think it's the APIM. GWM maybe.....TCU probably. This is 100% a lack of connectivity issue. Notice the OTA triggers expire exactly 2 weeks after they are sent. That's because an OTA trigger (for non-inhibit updates like this one) is only valid on the server for two weeks for the vehicle to accept it before it expires. If the APIM updates were failing due to a bad APIM, they would at least download and try to install before they fail with some kind of error message as to why it is failing.

What kind of code scanner are you using? There have to be some codes.
This is good info I will pass along to dealer since the vehicle is still there. Would a faulty TCU also inhibit the ability for the vehicle to be manually updated by dealer and not over OTA?

At least you can rule out a “disable job”. For now I don’t see the APIM being the issue yet.

Does the GPS work?

Oh yes......for sure. I have seen many cases were a module went bad and could not be updated via FDRS or the OTA process. This will cause a bottleneck effect since certain updates have to be installed in a certain order. This is true for APIM, GWM, TCU and (sometimes) IPC updates.

@rugedraw the shop assured me they ruled out TCU as first step. Big surprise, I went to pick it up and my phone wouldn’t connect to app. It did look like they got Sync to update with the new APIM. We will see if they take a better look at TCU this time or just continue to ignore me.

@rugedraw Quick update, the dealer got a hold of the ford hotline and they advised it is the GWM. I saw on another thread this is located behind the instrument cluster. Do you know if the entire dash needs to be removed or just the cluster?

I am worried now my dash is going to rattle for the rest of its life after they remove all this crap throwing parts at it LOL.

I would not worry about it. I have taken apart the dash on my F150 and my girl's Bronco on multiple occassions and it's fine, and I'm not a technician.

Glad to hear they figured it out, though.

It could be the gateway, but unless I get explained exactly why it will communicate in one way and not in the other, I am saying it’s BS. You can talk to the module in one way, but the update never finishes. So if that port or cable is bad, you couldn’t talk to that module period.
