I don't think too many would argue the reliability of the 1st gens. The 3rd gen and above are another story. I don't think we'll be seeing a lot of 300k from either gen without major repairs.

Nice! I've got 280K on my '99 EB 5.4L. LOF service every 3K miles. Rotate tires every 6K. Air filter every 12K. And I don't let little stuff grow into big problems.

You got a good one there at 300,000 miles.
My 2004 XLT has 272,000 with no major repairs and I'm hoping to make it to 300,000.
Retired now and don't drive it as much and not out of town anymore.

I feel for you guys. Spent some time there in my youth while in USAF. Rode in a couple vehicles where you could see the road through the floorboards.

I have a 2000 EB 5.4L 4WD and a 2011 XLT Plus 4WD, both since new. The 2000 has 331K and the 2011 has 206K. I think the only non-wear item failure I've had on the 2011 is the seat heater. I expect to get as many miles out of it as I have on the 2000 if not more. I wish my 2000 looked like zfifty's, but I've got my share of rust on the roof and rocker panels. I have long since stopped being concerned about its appearance and am happy with the way it still runs. I hope to take it to 400K on the original engine and transmission. The only engine work has been a new intake manifold when the original cracked at around 210K. The transmission has never been touched other than me changing the fluid and filter. Same goes for the 2011. Other than new plugs, oil changes and filter changes, the engine and transmission on the 2011 have had no work done. What I'm trying to say is that so far our third generation is every bit as reliable as our first generation, if not more. It's 70% about doing the maintenance, 25% about not abusing it and 5% luck. (Stats just made up now.)

I had a new 2004 extended f350 with a 6.0 diesel duel wheel.. Real nice truck. Plowed at the local mall in Erie, pa. We used to get a bit of snow. Shortly after I got it, I hurt my back. I could not afford the proper maintenance and it would not fit through a car wash. Was unable to hand wash. It rusted so bad. I had it chipped heavy. Between the chip and lack of maintenance.. I was only able to get 276,000 miles on it. Still ran STRONG.. My 2010 e350 extended 6.0 has 280,000 but second motor. Just replaced the power steering pump. My 2007 F350 extended duelly I bought very used from Florida. I finally got the fuel tank clean, replaced all the injectors. With 128,000 miles.. Runs like new. I d miss having cruise control and power windows in this one. Just put tires on my 19 exp MAX at 45,000 miles.

If only that were the reality, I would never have a worry. :/ I've babied the shit out of my truck - both in terms of maintenance and in how I drive it. Nonetheless, it's been a rough road since 160k or so. I probably sunk $1,500 into it since then and the hits keep on coming. I'm pretty close to throwing in the towel on it. My primary mechanic, who told me he will never buy anything but Ford until the day he dies, cautioned me to avoid another 3V or the Eco if I want something that is likely to just go and go. When you're dealing with a vehicle whose reliability ratings more than halved since the vehicle hit the market, I think you need 95% luck to keep it going to 300k without major repairs.

New to me, but she's still running strong and hopefully I get more use out of it. Still haven't come up with a name for her yet, this is the first vehicle that it hasn't jumped out at me name wise yet.
