Good morning!
I'm new to this forum, but I've been around on others like it. Looking for some help with my dad's 2019 Expedition.
I know it's a common problem, but we've been chasing our tails for months, and I haven't been able to find a consensus on what causes it. It has the typical "trailer connected/ trailer disconnected" message, with no trailer on. At first it was mostly just when it rained, but now it seems to be happening more. We've pulled apart every plug we can find, cleaned and packed with dielectric. I also traced the harness up to the frame and found the two groumd eyelets. Took those off and cleaned them with emory cloth.
I did run across the TSB about it, which just says to replace the trailer connector. I'm not opposed to doing that, but I'm a bit skeptical. In the course of our testing, we pulled the connector off the back of the trailer connector, behind the bumper, and drove that way for a bit, and it still acted up. That made me think the issue isn't there, but somewhere further up the line. Maybe I'm wrong on that, but I would think that would eliminate the trailer connector itself.
Surely others have had this issue and found a conclusive fix! Any help would be appreciated. If you have any questions, I'll try to answer. He's leaving for Wyoming this weekend, and would really like to have a peaceful drive.
Thanks!
