So I have a 2017 xlt expedition. I have towed with it once for about 300 miles.

So the other day driving I got to running through the productivity screen. I came to trailer setup. I noticed that my mileage for the trailer was still counting. So I thought well does it think I’m still hooked up. So I hit the brake controller and it says trailer disconnected.

I know in my super duty when I go to the trailer page and I’m not hooked up it will say trailer disconnected. Should my expedition be doing the same?

Has anyone else experienced this? To me it seems that the brake controller and the trailer page are not responding to one another. Any help would be appreciated. It’s not a big deal but just bugs me.

A quick experiment this morning leads me to guess a trailer is still connected. Not, of course, but something is making the truck think a trailer is back there.

I'm unable to do more than "check trailer status" which reports "no trailer." Since there's no trailer I can't access things like brake settings, mileage, etc. I could access these last week when I had the trailer connected and the mileage shown for my camper matched the trips I've made with it. I assume the UHaul mileage is there too but didn't check and, as noted, the data is not available with nothing hooked up.

Anything in any of the connectors? Maybe hosing out both connectors with contact cleaner will help?

Something I didn't try has to do with the Miles to Empty computation which has "towing" as an option. Mine is set for non-towing. Don't recall if I changed it back after towing or not.

Please keep us informed. Too many guys make one post, get some answers, and then disappear. Don't be that guy. :)

seems strange as why it thinks your still connected. have you connected the trailer than unconnected it to see if it reboots.

my screen automatically sets to let me know its connected and only counts miles if its connected
i would also look plug on the vehicle and ensure its clean all around and no bent pins or crud across the connections on the 7 pin

I’m going to try contact cleaner in the morning. If that doesn’t work I’ll try plugging my 7way adapter in to see if I can’t fool it. If that doesn’t work I’ll try plugging it into my trailer. Just seems weird that the brake controller and command center don’t communicate. Thanks for the replies.
