I have a 2003 Ford expodetion, got it from my brother, it ran and drove good except it smoked, I redone the top end, intake, lifters, oil pump, gaskets and seal's, got it started and it runs like a dream now, but it want go backwards when put in reverse, it goes forward, even in neutral it goes forward, I have checked and double checked every thing to no avail, I am running out of what could be wrong with it. I JH ad the battery out of it for a while, and thought the pcm needed to reset it self, but it has had time for that to happen, and still it only goes forward in all gears. Is there a valve or something that is not doing what it needs to. Please if there are any one out there that has any thoughts or knowledge of how or what I need to do please reply and let me know

check TC. or electronic connections to the transmission or in the engine bay, you may have missed one.

I'm going to assume that you haven't removed the engine & trans from the vehicle or separated them to work on the upper end.

Check trans fluid level when cold. If it is higher than normal cold the torque converter is emptying out when the engine is turned off. Once restarted the pump is filling it back up which takes some time.
Reverse gear takes a high line pressure since it involves the most components in the transmission. If the internal seals are leaking there isn't enough pressure to actuate reverse.
