hey y'all I have a question about my trans. I have a 2002 expedition E.B. with the 5.4l so from what I have read its got the E4OD trans in it. after changing the filter I started noticing some odd drops in RPM at speed. The transmission shifts fine and quick through first and second at some point in third gear usually around 50 mph as i'm still accelerating the tach shows about 2100. Then out of nowhere the RPM's drop to about 1800 and start increasing back up to about 2200 or 60-65 mph where it finally shifts into overdrive. when the RPM's drop I don't notice any loss in power and i'm still accelerating so i'm confused as to what is going on. I took it to a shop and they said everything was fine so i'm not really worried at this point but its bugging me. Anyone know what this is?

go to ford etis and enter your vin number and you will get a list of what all was on your expy when built
The service manual for a 2002 model shows either a 4R100 or 4R70W trans

UPDATE

so I took my sisters 2002 expedition out yesterday to see if it does the same thing and lo and behold it does ( it also has a waaay touchier throttle but that's another story ).. so all I can come up with is the transmission either,
A. is going in to lockup even though I didn't think that happened until overdrive
or
B. there's some fancy hidden gear in the 4r100 worth about 10 mph

Lock up can happen in any gear. You can see this if you put the gear in "1" and start down a hill till it hits about 2k revs. Let off the throttle and it'll feel like you have the brakes on... From what I understand it can lock in in any gear if you aren't too far into throttle. Or if you are within the power band in that gear.

I may he wrong but that's how I think it works given I know how it does it mechanically
