Transmission stuck in Park??

Have a 98 EXP 4x4 that is stuck in park or nuetral.
Was backing up in 4x4 Low tring to hitch a trailer when all of a
sudden the transmission will not come out of park. When applying the brake, I can move shift lever, but other positions just have no detent and will not engage transmission. Tryed checking fuses, Still NG.
Any ideas???

Maybe the cable link from the shift lever to your transmission broke-off or got disconnected and is unable to shift your transmission, check under the truck by the tranny and in the cab under steering wheel column for cable disconnected.
