How difficult is it to change the transmission dipstick tube? Mine has a hole in it and I'd like to replace it once it gets a bit warmer. I haven't crawled under to see how it's hooked up, or what else would need to come off.

My transmission shakes at low RPMs in 3rd and Over drive. I added a bottle of Lucas Transmission Fix to it and about 1/3 of the bottle ended up on the ground. I think my next step is to drop the pan and change the filter, but I also need to change the tube so that I can add fresh fluid.

I've been driving around in 2nd gear when I can keep it under 50mph, and up shifting to drive when I need to go over that. All while keeping OD OFF. I'd love to have a stick shift, but not like this.

The dipstick tube itself is actually a 2 piece tube ( the conection is about 5-6 inches from where the tube goes into the trans), the support for the tube is bolted to the engine block.

You may want to unbolt the support and seperate the tube and take a look at the o-ring it could be a cheap fix. FYI it is going to be a PITA trust me I just did a trans R&R on mine!

The bolt head was pretty bad too. Gonna have to figure out the thread and replace it as well.

Sorry to unearthed an old thread but how much of a pia was removing the dipstick tube? I've got some rust on mine and want to replace at the next trans service.

It's a two piece tube. I replaced the upper piece. There is a single bolt on the passenger side near the header. Unbolt that and then it's just held by an o-ring. It sort of pops out. Then the replacement took some fenagling to get it threaded through everything right and then just push it together.

I don't know about the lower part.

Mine is rusted where it curves over the exhaust. I'm thinking to replace it at the next trans service. The bottom part at the trans seems like it might be plastic, I crawled under there a few weeks ago.
