i was wondering how can i find out what type of transmission i have. i have a 97 expedition 5.4 eddie baurer

...or if he has an "E" transmission code, then it's an E4OD.

Look at the door jamb sticker. "E" is noted above...
"U" is a 4R70w that Matt noted.

I'm not sure if they used a 4R100 in 1997. I think they came online in 1999 but I could be mistaken.

I was under the impression that the 4r100 was a new designator for the E4OD...... Just updated for more capacity.... When you order a shift kit often times it is the same kit for both the E4OD and 4R100. I don't know much about that trans. I would call myself an expert on the 4r70W/AODE and the older AOD though.
