i have a 2000 eddie bauer with the 5.4, i got my tranny serviced about two weeks ago because it was starting to shift hard or not shift at all out of first until i left off the gas. today i was leaving and it starting making this ticking/grinding noise coming from under the truck.. it also takes about 5-10 seconds to shift from drive to park or reverse. the truck has about 150k miles on it. i have just replaced two fuel injectors, two spark plugs, going to change the oil today, new battery in the past two weeks.
