Vent selector switch not working

My 2003 Ezpedition, manual climate control system. Switch on dash won't change the vents, all air comes out the dash. A mechanic said the vacuum line coming from the engine compartment that goes through the firewall, has come loose under the dash. He said getting to where it is supposed to connect will require pulling the dash. Is that true? That is going to be so expensive. The way it is now, I have no defrost.

Sounds like it, but check the hoses near firewall first. Might get lucky.

Where it goes through the firewall, you can actually pull it back out, so it isn't attached under the dash.
